SABO, Swedish Association of Municipal Housing Companies
SABO - the Swedish Association of Municipal Housing Companies - is the organisation of the public housing companies in Sweden.
The approximately 300 companies affiliated manage some 729 000 dwelling units. This is 20 percent of the total housing stock in Sweden and about one third of all dwelling units in multi-storey houses. Altogether 1,4 milion people live in SABO homes. SABO provides expertise in different fields, exchanges experience between its members and cooperates with national authorities and organizations. SABO also arranges conferences and takes on consultancy assignments.

The Riksdag (Swedish Parliament) decided to pass the new Public Municipal Housing Companies Act on the 22nd of June 2010. This means that companies with a public interest objective shall manage properties with residential apartments rented out under tenancy agreements, promote the supply of housing in the municipality, and also offer tenants the opportunity of exercising influence over both housing as well the company.
